The Jamia Millia Islamia cricket ground in Delhi holds a special place in Indian cricketing culture. Known as one of the early grounds associated with legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag, the venue has produced several talented players from Delhi’s cricketing ecosystem over the years.
For me, this ground marked one of the earliest and most important chapters in my cricket photography journey. It was here that I covered the CII Corporate Cricket League, an experience that not only improved my sports photography skills but also introduced me to the large-scale professionalism and production quality involved in modern corporate cricket tournaments in India.
Getting this assignment was not straightforward.
Initially, the organizers from the CII Corporate Cricket League were unsure about my capabilities as a sports photographer. Since cricket photography requires strong anticipation, timing, and consistency, especially in fast-paced match situations, gaining trust was important.
However, after reviewing some of the photographs I had already captured, the organizers gained confidence in my work and eventually entrusted me with coverage for their major matches.
That opportunity became a turning point in my cricket photography experience.
Photographing cricket at the Jamia Millia Islamia ground was a memorable experience because of the venue’s rich sporting history and its expansive playing field.
The large outfield allowed me to:
Use long telephoto compositions effectively
Create strong subject-background separation
Capture cinematic frames with natural depth
Experiment with player isolation using my f/5.6 telephoto setup
The open environment also provided opportunities for dynamic action photography during:
Batting strokes
Bowling deliveries
Diving fielding efforts
Emotional celebrations and reactions
One of the strongest images I captured came during the finals, where the winning captain was airborne after hitting the winning shot while the wicketkeeper behind him was left collapsed on his knees in disappointment. That moment perfectly captured the emotional contrast that makes sports photography so powerful.

Apart from still photography, this tournament also became one of my early successes in sports videography and reels creation.
One of the videos I created alongside the organizers gained nearly 30,000 views online.
The concept was simple yet emotionally relatable:
The video opened with the organizer accidentally walking onto the cricket field and being asked by a player to leave
The next sequence revealed him intensely practicing in the nets
The caption revolved around the idea:
“You can take the organizer out of cricket, but you can’t take cricket out of him.”
The storytelling angle connected well with audiences and showed me the growing importance of short-form sports content and reels alongside traditional photography.
One of the most eye-opening aspects of the CII Corporate Cricket League was witnessing the scale of modern cricket event production.
This was the first time I experienced:
Live video broadcasting setups
Real-time scorecard systems
Professional tournament production environments
AI-assisted DRS-style ball tracking systems
Seeing artificial intelligence and advanced production technology being integrated even into corporate-level cricket was fascinating and gave me a deeper appreciation for how sports presentation is evolving in India.
The tournament took place during Delhi’s peak winter season, when pollution and haze levels become extremely high, especially during night matches.
These conditions created challenges such as:
Reduced visibility
Light diffusion and haze interference
Difficulty maintaining contrast and sharpness
Variable artificial lighting conditions
Despite these environmental limitations, adapting camera settings and changing shooting positions around the ground helped me continue producing strong images throughout the tournament.
Covering the CII Corporate Cricket League helped me improve:
Anticipation during cricket action
Storytelling through player emotions
Long-lens sports composition
Sports videography and reels creation
Handling difficult environmental conditions like haze and low visibility
It also strengthened my confidence in working within professionally managed sporting environments.
This assignment reinforced my interest in expanding further into:
Professional cricket tournaments like the IPL and the Indian Cricket Team
Sports reels and digital storytelling
Cricket academy and training coverage
High-production-value sporting events
As cricket continues to dominate India’s sports culture, I hope my experience at Jamia Millia Islamia helps open doors to more advanced opportunities within the cricket media ecosystem.

My experience at the Jamia Millia Islamia ground was more than just another cricket assignment—it was a milestone that introduced me to the professional side of sports production, content creation, and large-scale tournament coverage.
From gaining the organizers’ trust to capturing emotional match-winning moments and creating viral sports content, the tournament played a major role in shaping my confidence as a cricket photographer and videographer in India.
It remains one of the most rewarding early experiences in my sports photography career and continues to motivate me toward bigger cricketing opportunities in the future.
